י Yodh

73 Your hands made me(A) and formed me;
    give me understanding to learn your commands.
74 May those who fear you rejoice(B) when they see me,
    for I have put my hope in your word.(C)
75 I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous,(D)
    and that in faithfulness(E) you have afflicted me.
76 May your unfailing love(F) be my comfort,
    according to your promise(G) to your servant.
77 Let your compassion(H) come to me that I may live,
    for your law is my delight.(I)
78 May the arrogant(J) be put to shame for wronging me without cause;(K)
    but I will meditate on your precepts.
79 May those who fear you turn to me,
    those who understand your statutes.(L)
80 May I wholeheartedly follow(M) your decrees,(N)
    that I may not be put to shame.(O)

10 To whom can I speak and give warning?
    Who will listen(A) to me?
Their ears are closed[a](B)
    so they cannot hear.(C)
The word(D) of the Lord is offensive to them;
    they find no pleasure in it.
11 But I am full of the wrath(E) of the Lord,
    and I cannot hold it in.(F)

“Pour it out on the children in the street
    and on the young men(G) gathered together;
both husband and wife will be caught in it,
    and the old, those weighed down with years.(H)
12 Their houses will be turned over to others,(I)
    together with their fields and their wives,(J)
when I stretch out my hand(K)
    against those who live in the land,”
declares the Lord.
13 “From the least to the greatest,
    all(L) are greedy for gain;(M)
prophets and priests alike,
    all practice deceit.(N)
14 They dress the wound of my people
    as though it were not serious.
‘Peace, peace,’ they say,
    when there is no peace.(O)
15 Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct?
    No, they have no shame at all;
    they do not even know how to blush.(P)
So they will fall among the fallen;
    they will be brought down when I punish(Q) them,”
says the Lord.

16 This is what the Lord says:

“Stand at the crossroads and look;
    ask for the ancient paths,(R)
ask where the good way(S) is, and walk in it,
    and you will find rest(T) for your souls.
    But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
17 I appointed watchmen(U) over you and said,
    ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’(V)
    But you said, ‘We will not listen.’(W)
18 Therefore hear, you nations;
    you who are witnesses,
    observe what will happen to them.
19 Hear, you earth:(X)
    I am bringing disaster(Y) on this people,
    the fruit of their schemes,(Z)
because they have not listened to my words(AA)
    and have rejected my law.(AB)

21 After all this had happened, Paul decided[a] to go to Jerusalem,(A) passing through Macedonia(B) and Achaia.(C) “After I have been there,” he said, “I must visit Rome also.”(D) 22 He sent two of his helpers,(E) Timothy(F) and Erastus,(G) to Macedonia, while he stayed in the province of Asia(H) a little longer.

The Riot in Ephesus

23 About that time there arose a great disturbance about the Way.(I) 24 A silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought in a lot of business for the craftsmen there. 25 He called them together, along with the workers in related trades, and said: “You know, my friends, that we receive a good income from this business.(J) 26 And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus(K) and in practically the whole province of Asia.(L) He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all.(M) 27 There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited; and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty.”
